Beta AR, Atom LT, Alpha SV. Wie voor het eerst een Arc'teryx zoekt loopt vast op die letters, en dat is jammer, want ze zeggen precies wat je aan de jas hebt. De naam ervoor is de familie en zegt waar het kledingstuk voor gemaakt is. De letters erachter zeggen hoe zwaar het weer mag worden. Arc'teryx is a Canadian brand, now part of Amer Sports, named after Archaeopteryx lithographica, the link between dinosaurs and birds. That fossil is also the logo. In our shop the brand sits in the ski clothing next to Peak Performance, State of Elevenate and The Mountain Studio.
An Arc'teryx model name comes in two parts. The front tells you which family it belongs to, and the letters behind it tell you how hard that particular garment is built. Once you know that system you can read a label the way the people who made it intended.
The most robust version. Heavier fabric, more reinforcement, built for the worst weather you are likely to meet. You pay for that in weight and in price.
The all-rounder. Enough protection for serious days out, without the weight of an SV. For most people this is the sweet spot.
Lighter and more packable, with slightly less armour. Made for moving fast and for days when the weather is not the main problem.
The lightest of the lot, made to live in your pack until you need it. Minimal features, minimal weight.
The waterproof shell for everything. GORE-TEX, no insulation, made to go over whatever you are already wearing. If you buy one hard shell, this is usually the one.
The synthetic insulated midlayer. Warm, breathable and it keeps working when it gets damp. Wear it under a shell or on its own on a dry day.
The climbing line. Cut and equipped for use with a harness and a helmet, with pockets that stay reachable when you are roped up.
Down. The warmest per gram in the range, with synthetic insulation placed where moisture tends to collect. Packs down to almost nothing.
Alongside those you will find the accessories that carry the same thinking: the Bird Head Toque and the Grotto Toque, the Kyanite Lightweight Jacket as a fleece midlayer, and ski trousers such as the Macai Pants and the Sabre LT.
Everything on this page can simply be ordered and sent to you. Order before 4 p.m. CET and it goes out the same day, by PostNL or in some cases DHL, with a track and trace number in your confirmation email. Delivery normally takes three to five working days. Shipping costs appear at checkout, wherever you are. You have 14 days to decide whether you want to keep it.
Sizing is the one thing worth thinking about before you order, because it differs between the families. An Atom is cut trim, a Beta is meant to go over layers, and the difference between an LT and an SV is something you feel rather than read on a label. If you are not sure, send us a message and tell us your usual size and what you will use it for. We would rather answer that beforehand than process a return.
If you are anywhere near the Netherlands, that is the better option. We keep Arc'teryx on the rail in our shop in Heemskerk, right next to the A9 motorway, roughly twenty minutes from Amsterdam, Haarlem and Alkmaar, with free parking in front of the door. Bring your helmet or your ski boots if the fit has to work with them. Picking up an online order in the shop is free as well.
